The Perth Kilt Run will take place this year on Saturday August 17th, starting at 4:00 PM. This event attracts upwards of 1500 runners, all of whom must wear kilts while they run, and the event organizers post a piper at each of the kilometer markers to play inspirational tunes as the runners pass by.
This year marks a departure from previous years, in that the date has had to be moved from June to August, and that has caused a shortage in the list of pipers who have normally been available to support the Run. Therefore, the organizers are looking for two more pipers to fill the roster. This is a paid performance, and the fee in the last few years has been $100.00, for approximately 30-40 minutes of piping. The Run is a fairly relaxed event, and the pipers may dress accordingly; i.e. kilt, golf shirt, and no head dress essential.
