2017-18 Knockout Series
We are pleased to announce dates and tune requirements for the 2017-18 Knockout Series.
The Knockouts are a staple in the Ottawa Branch calendar, offering amateur pipers and drummers the opportunity to work on repertoire in advance of the outdoor contest season.
This year, we have coordinated with the Toronto Branch to align Knockout dates wherever possible. Pipers and drummers thus have the option to compete in both series throughout the fall and winter.
Information about the Toronto Branch Knockout Series can be found here.
All events will take place at the HMCS Bytown Naval Officers’ Mess in downtown Ottawa.
- Saturday, September 23rd – includes AGM and elections (meeting at 7:30 pm, with first soloists at 8:00 pm)
- Saturday, October 28th
- Saturday, November 25th
- Saturday, January 6th
- Saturday, February 3rd
- Saturday, March 3rd – Ottawa Knockout FINALS
Note: The draw for the first Knockout in September will be in reverse order of registration. Sign up early to secure a better draw for the first Knockout.
Other Branch Events
Other events corresponding with these Knockout dates, such as workshops and recitals will be announced in the near future, including a new amateur piobaireachd contest in February (details forthcoming).
Congratulations to all prize winners at the 2017 North Lanark Highland Games in Almonte! Results are available here.
This brings the outdoor season in Eastern Ontario to a close. Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme standings will be updated shortly.
The Ottawa Branch AGM will be held before the first Knockout on Saturday, September 23rd at the HMCS Bytown Naval Officers’ Mess. Items for discussion include elections and motions for the PPBSO AGM in November. Those present at this meeting will discuss a range of issues related to the management of the Society, including motions from member branches for rule changes to the PPBSO Rule Book.
If you would like to propose changes to the PPBSO Rule Book please forward a proposed motion to firstname.lastname@example.org. Following initial vetting by the Branch executive, draft motions will be discussed and voted on at the Branch AGM and then forwarded to the main PPBSO office if approved.
From the PPBSO main office: “All branch motions for the AGM must go through the PPBSO Board’s Governance Committee for vetting before being submitted to the Board of Directors for approval to appear on the AGM agenda. As in year’s past, the purpose of this vetting and approval isn’t to make a value judgement on the content of the motions themselves, but to provide clarity of wording, amalgamate similar motions from multiple branches, and to confirm consistency with applicable laws and the letters patent (and SLP) of the organization”.
Proposed Rule Book motions must be received by Friday, September 8th.
