PPBSO Ottawa Branch

Annual General Meeting – Friday, October 7th

The Ottawa Branch AGM will be held before the first Knockout on Friday, October 7th at the HMCS Bytown Naval Officers’ Mess. Items for discussion include elections and motions for the PPBSO AGM in Milton on November 12th. Those present at this meeting will discuss a range of issues related to the management of the Society, including motions from member branches for rule changes to the PPBSO Rule Book.

Call for motions

If you would like to propose changes to the PPBSO Rule Book please forward a proposed motion to president@ppbso-ottawa.org. Following initial vetting by the Branch executive, draft motions will be discussed and voted on at the Branch AGM and then forwarded to the main PPBSO office if approved.

From the PPBSO main office: “All branch motions for the 2016 AGM must go through the PPBSO Board’s Governance Committee for vetting before being submitted to the Board of Directors for approval to appear on the AGM agenda. As in year’s past, the purpose of this vetting and approval isn’t to make a value judgement on the content of the motions themselves, but to provide clarity of wording, amalgamate similar motions from multiple branches, and to confirm consistency with applicable laws and the letters patent (and SLP) of the organization”.

Proposed Rule Book motions must be received by September 24th.

Maxville results and Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme

Eastern Ontario bands and soloists enjoyed a very successful weekend at the 2016 Glengarry Highland Games. Two bands from the region–The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and Rob Roy–were named North American Champions in Grades 4 and 3 respectively. In solos, Andrew Hayes won his fifth Bar to the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada).

Congratulations to all competitors! Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme points for bands and amateur soloists have been updated here.

Eastern Ontario at the World Pipe Band Championships

Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec were well represented at the recent World Pipe Band Championships, with the Sons of Scotland, the Black Watch Association, Rob Roy, and Ottawa Police Service competing in Grades 4B, 3B and 1 respectively. The Branch extends its congratulations to all bands and their countless hours of practicing to prepare for the trip overseas.

Lastly, good luck to all competitors at Almonte this weekend!
