Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme Winners: Introducing the Pipe Major Tom Brown Memorial Cup

The Ottawa Branch is proud to announce the Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme winners for 2017.

Congratulations to this year’s winners! All awards will be presented at the next Ottawa Branch Knockout event on Saturday, November 25th. The evening will include all drumming categories and the Canadian Content Hornpipe/Jig contest. Awards will be presented after the contests at the HMCS Bytown Naval Officers’ Mess, 78 Lisgar St. in downtown Ottawa. The evening gets underway at 7:30 pm.

Pipe Major Tom Brown Memorial Cup

This past spring, the piping and drumming community in Eastern Ontario lost a stalwart individual. Tom Brown (1976 – 2017) was a professional soloist, certified adjudicator, pipe major, and teacher.

To honour Tom’s legacy, the Royal Canadian Air Force Pipes and Drums, which Tom led for many years, has kindly donated a new trophy. We are grateful for this donation! The trophy features the crests of the bands that Tom contributed to over the years, and is the first dedicated trophy to be awarded as part of the Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme aggregate.

The Pipe Major Tom Brown Memorial Cup will be awarded to the “Most Successful Pipe Band – Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme – All Grades”. This is defined as the band with the most 1st place finishes in contests with two or more bands competing. As such, it is possible for a band in any grade to win this trophy each year.

Inaugural Presentation

We are proud to announce the Glengarry Pipe Band – Gr. 5 as the inaugural winners of the Pipe Major Tom Brown Memorial Cup!

It is very fitting that both the organization donating this new award, and the organization receiving it had Tom as a member during his lifetime. The Branch is honoured to host Tom’s wife and daughter, Michèle and Abigail on November 25th to present this new award. We encourage all those who knew Tom to attend.
