Saturday March 4th will determine which of our pipers and drummers will be awarded the title of undisputed champion for the 2016-17 Ottawa Branch Knock-Out season. All playing will be taking place at our usual venue the HMCS Bytown at 78 Lisgar St, Ottawa. The first Competitor will be kicking things off at 7:30pm.
We are glad to have two very knowledgeable and successful judges for the evening. For piping we will see Andrea Boyd putting pen to paper and for the drumming contest will are lucky to have former Toronto police grade one and current PPBSO judge Kenny Constable overseeing the drumming. Andrea will be performing what is sure to be an exciting recital following the contest.
For those of you may night know of Andrea Boyd, she is a very accomplished solo and band player. While currently a member of the grade one Ottawa Police Services Pipe Band she has also spent many years playing with perpetual top six grade one bands Boghall and Bathgate and St. Laurence O’Toole, having won a World Pipe Band Championship with the latter in 2010. She is also a very successful solo player having won several prizes in both Canada and Scotland. Some of her accolades include the silver medal at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban, B-grade light music overall champion at the Argyllshire Gathering, professional piper of the day at the North American Piping Championships, Young Piper of the Year Scotland and has finished in prizes for the Highland Society of London’s gold medal contests on more than one occasion.
Kenny Constable has spent a lifetime in the grade one drumming scene in Ontario. Having been a corps playing with the 78th Fraser’s, Peel Regional Police and lead tip with grade one Toronto Police. Mr. Constable is currently spends his time as a certified judge for the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario.
It is going to be a great night of piping and drumming and hope to see you all out to support the season long efforts of our competitors.
