September Knockout Sign Up, Prizewinners, and Breabach in Eastern Ontario




September Knockout

The 2019-20 Ottawa Branch Knockout series kicks off on Saturday, September 28th. The evening will feature:

  1. A Piping – Two 6/8 Marches

  2. A Drumming – MSR

  3. B Drumming – 6/8 March

  4. 40+ Drumming – 2/4 March

Sign up for the Knockouts

The draw for the first event will be in reverse order of entry. Competitors can sign up on the day, but if you sign up now you can secure a later draw.

Join us for an evening with good tunes!

  1. When: Saturday, September 28th at 7:30 pm

  2. Where: HMCS Bytown Naval Officers’ Mess, 78 Lisgar St. in downtown Ottawa

  3. Cost: $7.00 per person (competitor or spectator)

 


Congratulations Andrew Hayes!

On August 21st, Ottawa piper Andrew Hayes won the Highland Society of London Gold Medal at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban, Scotland. A terrific achievement! Andrew is now a double Gold Medallist, having won the Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting in Inverness in 2010. With this win, Andrew secures an invite to the Glenfiddich Piping Championship in Blair Atholl in October. Well done Andrew!

Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme

Congratulations to all prize winners at the contests in our area this summer. We are finalizing point totals and look forward to announcing winners for each Eastern Ontario Champion Supreme category in the near future.

 


Breabach Performing in Eastern Ontario

Renowned Scottish folk group Breabach will be performing in Kingston and Ottawa in October! They will also perform in Peterborough and London.

Breabach was formed in 2011 and has already won the ‘Best Folk Band’ and ‘Best Album’ at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards as well as nomination for ‘Best Group’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and ‘European Album of the Year’ in the Songlines Music Awards.

The group incorporates bagpipes, guitar, fiddle, flute, bass bouzouki, step dance, and Gaelic song into a rich sound that you don’t want to miss.
