Canning and Lawson to Judge at Knockout Final

The executive of the PPBSO Ottawa Branch is pleased to announce that Ryan Canning and Andrew Lawson, both of The House of Edgar Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band, will be coming to Ottawa to adjudicate the Ottawa Branch Knockout finals scheduled for February 23, 2013. We also look forward to a recital by these talented musicians after the competition.

Ryan Canning was recently appointed as the new Pipe Major of Shotts after playing with the storied Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band for 16 years. Andrew Lawson is a member of the world class Shotts Drum Corps under Jim Kilpatrick MBE. Andrew has consistently placed in the top for many solo contests. Andrew originally hails from Canada and we look forward to welcoming him home.

Andrew started drumming at the age of 7 in Ontario, Canada. A few years later he started lessons with Doug Stronach. He joined the Grade 1 Toronto Police Pipe Band at the age of 16 playing under Drew Duthart. From 1997 to 2003 he played with the Peel Regional Police. He moved to Scotland in 2004 to play under Jim Kilpatrick MBE at the House of Edgar Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band where he has won numerous band and drumming titles including the 2005 World Championships, overall and drumming, 2011 World Champion Drum Corps and 5 Champion of Champions drumming prizes. Andrew recently placed 4th in the World Solo Drumming Championships in 2012.
