The RCMP Pipe Band, Ottawa, is seeking candidates for the position of Pipe Sergeant. The recruiting and selection process will take place over the course of this fall/winter and we expect that the successful candidate will be in place by the fall of 2022.
The RCMP Pipe Band Ottawa formed in 2000 and reports to the Commanding Officer of ‘National Division’. It has earned a solid reputation in the National Capital Region as a community-based volunteer band that advances the Force’s public relations program through local parades and performances and provides garrison support to the RCMP on ceremonial occasions.
As one of eight bands comprising the RCMP’s national band program, our band participates regularly in national and international travel where ‘composite bands’ are formed to meet specific performance requirements.
The successful candidate will be integral to the leadership of the existing band management team and a strong advocate of the band’s role in representing the proud traditions of the RCMP. Further, the successful candidate will receive due consideration for advancement to the position of Pipe Major as part of ongoing succession planning.
The ideal candidate brings:
Proven leadership and communication skills
Previous experience in a band leadership role
An accomplished background in personal and/or band level competition
Comprehensive knowledge of bagpipe music and music theory
Advanced skill in band tuning and set-up
Previous experience with police, military or para-military band organizations
Previous experience with band/group level administrative and managerial process
