The 2026 Ottawa Indoors contest proved to be a tremendous success, showcasing not only exceptional musical talent but also the dedication and perseverance of everyone involved. Despite several challenges in the lead-up to the event, the planning committee worked tirelessly to ensure the competition went ahead, and their efforts paid off in every way.
The day began with a highly competitive solo contest, featuring 28 categories and over 95 competitors. One of the most encouraging highlights was the noticeable rise in Piobaireachd entries, reflecting a growing interest in this traditional and demanding art form. Equally exciting was the significant increase in youth participation, a promising sign for the future of the pipe band community.
Following a lively morning of performances, attendees enjoyed a well-earned lunch break, along with the chance to explore a variety of vendors offering highland goods and supplies. The atmosphere remained vibrant as the focus shifted to the band competition.

Crowds gathered around the band circle to take in impressive performances from bands ranging from Juvenile to Grade 2. The standard of playing was outstanding across all levels, demonstrating both musical precision and strong ensemble work. The event also featured crowd-favourite Quartet and Fanfare contests, adding even more variety and excitement to the day.

A highlight of this year’s event was the performance by dancers from Danielle’s Highland Dance Academy and the Andrea Goral School of Highland Dancing. They impressed the audience with their talent right before the awards ceremony, adding to the event’s cultural vibe!
Events like this would not be possible without the expertise of dedicated adjudicators. Sincere thanks go to judges Al Clark, Ross Davison, Chris Dodson, Amy Garson, Reagan Jones, Trish Kirkwood, Craig Stewart, and Brian Williamson for their time, professionalism, and insight throughout the day. We would also like to sincerely thank our amazing volunteers who supported this event from beginning to end: Mary Byford, Hugh Dimcok, Francis McArdle, Rob McGregor, Graeme Ogilvie, Sophia Oueja, Joan Schnupp, Cathy and Scott Wilson.
Finally, heartfelt appreciation is extended to the entire PPBSO Ottawa Branch planning committee. Their commitment, resilience, and countless hours of work ensured that the 2026 Ottawa Indoors was not only successful, but truly exceptional.
