What is a Mòd?:
Mòd Chanada is modelled after and affiliated with the Royal National Mòd in Scotland, and the American National Mòd in United States. I, Randy Waugh, am involved in all three organizations. A Mòd is like a highland games, but focusses on cultural events surrounding competing and performing in the Scottish Gàidhlig language and playing traditional Scottish instruments.
Regardless of where you are with your playing, it is highly recommended that you come to the Mòd to:
Attend and see some great performers/players/competitors
Learn some new tricks
Attend the OCPC end of year concert (included in Mòd admission)
If you register for any three events (including seminar), admission to the Mòd for the attendee and one parent (if the attendee is a minor) will be free.
If you compete in any three events, you will be in the running for one of the larger prizes, and we have quite an array of prizes from Wallace Bagpipes, The Gaelic College and The Ottawa Folklore Center, and others.

Mòd admission prices: Competitors and General Public: Family (2 adults/3 children) $25, Adults $10, Children (5-12) $5; Senior Citizens/Military/Police/Veterans or paid up Comunn Gàidhlig Ottawa (CGO) members – Freewill offering.
Note(s): * If a competitor registers for 3+ events, the general admission fee will be waived; If registered for 2+ events, the general admission fee will be 50%; If registered for 1 event, the general admission fee will be 100%. Competitors who are minors are permitted have 1 parent accompany them free-of-charge. * Paid up CGO members have a lower competition fee as indicated at time of registration (Memberships in CGO are: Individual – $25/year, Group – $100/year, Corporate – $250/year)

Who is Craig Munro? Craig has played in Grade 1 now for a total of 13 years firstly with Shotts & Dykehead when he was 15, and currently with 2010 Grade 1 World Champions St Laurence O’Toole., he is a piper with the famed Red Hot Chili Pipers, and director at Wallace bagpipes travels the world delivering workshops on bagpipes and piping. How do I know which category to enter myself or my child in?: J – in the Junior Section must be within the prescribed age group on 1st October of the current Mòd Canada. This is the class children should enter (Under 12 years old). B – Any competitor 12 years of age or more on the 1st May of the current year’s Mòd Canada and who has been formally studying Gàidhlig or their respective instrument or dance for less than two years is eligible to compete at the Gaelic Beginner level for competition providing entry qualifications are met. I – Any competitor 12 years of age or more on the 1st May of the current year’s Mòd Canada and who has been formally studying Gàidhlig or their respective instrument or dance for more than two years is eligible to compete at the Gaelic Intermediate level for competitions, providing entry qualifications are met. A – Any competitor 12 years of age or more on the 1st May of the current year’s Mòd Canada and who is fluent or close to fluent in Gàidhlig or their respective instrument or dance is eligible to compete at the Gaelic Advanced level for competitions, providing entry qualifications are met.
How do I know which competition(s) to enter myself or my child in?:
If you are playing tunes on Practice Chanter and can play a two-parted march (ALL levels):PRACTICE CHANTER 22J/B/I/A MARCH Play two parts of a pre-submitted march (Open) (Own Choice)
If you are playing tunes on Small-pipes (any style) and can play a four-parted march (ALL levels):SMALLPIPES 23J/B/I/A MARCH Play four parts of a pre-submitted march (Open) (Own Choice)
If you are playing tunes on either Small-pipes (any style) or the Great Highland Bagpipe (ALL levels) and have prepared a duet of a tune of Gàidhlig origin:30J/B/I/A DUET Own choice of presubmitted music of Gaelic origin, not to exceed 5 minutes (Open) (Own Choice)

Be SURE to print and bring a copy of the setting of the tune you will competing.
Ottawa City Piping College West End Studio – End of year concert We are happy to announce that we will have our second annual OCPC concert at the Mòd again this year. What this means for you or your child: This is a great opportunity for you or your child, regardless of what level you/they are at, to come and play your/their best piece for others, and to meet other students and their families and hear what they have been working on. Please register to attend, and discuss which tune you/they will play at the concert. It is a highlight for me as well to see/hear the progress we’ve made together over the year.
