February 6th Knock-Out Update…

Saturday February 6th, 2016 is shaping up to be a fantastic night of piping and drumming for the PPBSO-Ottawa Branch. We are pleased and excited to have Andrew Carlisle coming up from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to judge both the A and B grade piping events, as well as provide our crowd with what will be a top notch recital from one of the worlds top soloists and bandsmen.

For those of you might be unfamiliar with Mr. Carlisle here is brief bio of his piping background and many achievements:

Originally from Ballygowan, Northern Ireland and began piping at the age of seven. Currently he lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a professor of music and the director of piping at Carnegie Mellon University.

Some of Andrew’s major prizes include: > the Gillies Cup for piobaireachd at London > the A Grade strathspey and reel at The Argyllshire Gathering, Oban > the A grade piobaireachd and overall at the Cowal Highland Gathering. > 3 MacAllan trophies at Lorient, France > 2015 saw a 4th place in the Highland Society of London Gold Medal at Oban.

As an active member of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band for 14 years Andrew has had the good fortune to share in the success of: 40 major pipe band championship wins, including 7 Grade One world championship wins and 2 grand slams.

Along with all this great piping, we will also be holding the A and B grade drumming contests as judged by Chris Bell, as well as our usual raffle that will definitely send a lucky winner home in good “spirits”.

The contest will be starting at their usual time of 7pm sharp at the HMCS Bytown Officers Mess, 78 Lisgar street, Ottawa, Ont. K2P 0C1.

This is a can’t miss night and will decide who gets into the final round in March.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
