Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame 2019 Inductees

The Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame inducted Kahlil Cappuccino and Gilbert Young on 24 May 2019. Congratulations to them both!

Kahlil Cappuccino

Kahlil Cappuccino began on the bass drum while still in high school.  From 1987 until 1996 he played for the Glengarry Pipe Band under Pipe Major Colin MacLellan as they moved from Grade 4 to a brief stop in Grade 1.  After a short stay with the Canadian Forces Composite Pipe Band, he returned to the Grade 2 Glengarry pipe band from 2002 until 2004. Since 2005 he has played with the Grade 1 78th Highlanders Halifax Citadel. He has won best bass at the North American championships three times, won the solo North American Open Bass Champion title, won the title of World Champion Bass, and twice won the Midwest Highland Arts Fund Gold Medal. Kahlil is also an adjudicator with the PPBSO, has served on their Music Board and is currently on the Music Committee for the Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association.

Gilbert Young

Gilbert joins his father in the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame. Gilbert’s father was inducted in 2008 with the Glengarry Strathspey and Reel Society. Gilbert has had a long association with the Glengarry Highland Games.  He started as the Director for Tattoo Bands in 1998 and then as the Overall Director of Bands in 2000.  He has played in area pipe bands for over 60 years starting with the Harrington Kilmar Pipe Band, a Grade 3 band for which Gilbert was the Pipe Major from 1957 through 1959.  He then went on to the Campbell Harrington Pipe Band before moving to the Grade 1 RCAF Rockcliffe pipe band under Pipe Major Archie Cairns. He stayed with RCAF Air Command Pipe Band from 1960 until 2001.  From 1983 until 2002 Gilbert was also the Pipe Sergeant with the Ottawa Police Services Pipe Band. He started with the RCMP Pipe Band in 2002, as their first Pipe Sergeant, and still plays with them.
